This blog is written using Wordpress, and until I started, I knew very little
about it. It has actually been dead easy to do, although I had a little prior
experience in FTP, editing code etc. from constructing my other website.
But, if you want to start your own blog, you should have a go; there are several
things you will need first:
- Webspace, which provides an SQL database. I use Awardspace, which has a good free package, with 1 database included.
- FTP Client: For mass transfer of files to your webspace. I use Filezilla which is free, and very easy to get to grips with.
- A copy of Wordpress from here. All free.
Although the Wordpress install guide & codex are pretty clear, it would also be
worth having a read of this free eBook from the OptiNiche blog. Clear and to the
point, you’ll see how easy it is to do.
Now all you need is a subject to blog about, although that hasn’t stopped me
yet…
For those of you who already blog, do you use Wordpress? Do you like it? Any advice? Comment away…

You wrote on Awardspace forum about making some changes to options.php in Wordpress. Could you tell me, what where they? I’m experiencing some strange errors, trying to setup some plugins - it’s redirecting me to AS main page.
Hi Buzz, it sounds like a banned word problem. Is this the initial install of Wordpress, or is it only since you’ve installed some plugins? If so, what plugins?
Feel free to email me on thermalblog@gmail.com & I’ll try to help you out.
