Whoops
An Austrian couple have had their marriage postponed for 10 weeks because the bride said “no” as a joke when the registrar asked during the civil ceremony whether she would take this man to be her husband, a newspaper reported.
Good to see that Austrian Civil Servants are as officious & humourless as their counterparts around the rest of the world.
Despite the entreaties of the bride, who said immediately she had just meant it in jest, the officiating registrar at once broke off the heavily attended ceremony in the town of Steyr.
Wouldn’t you have just loved to witness the ensuing conversation between Bride & (eventual) Mother in Law…

“You’re not mad?” asked the would-be bride as soon as she could get the once and future mother-in-law to one side.
“No, why should I be mad, liebchen?” (This was Austria, you said, right?) “I’m glad you realized you’re not good enough for my son before anything became final.”
“What do you mean not good enough?” The bride’s tone darkened considerably.
“Like I said, dear, you’re not in his league and it’s a credit to you that you figured it out. Took you long enough –”
And that’s when the bride clouted the mother-in-law right in the chops….

Curmy: You sound like the voice of experience? At least as far as MIL’s go. (Thats Mother In Law, not MILF which is something completely different)
Erika (or wrkia as I first typed, must be all the beer) true, or was it a lucky escape?
Sorry Rose, when I received your email, there was only 15 minutes of Monday left for me & I was thinking next week. For comparison, your comment was left at 06:30 Tuesday morning, UK time.
