Weekend Away
Two whole days without the internet - the humanity!
Anyways, we took the boys over to Glasgow on Saturday, it’s about 150 miles from Aberdeen which is plenty close enough, to visit a couple of museums. First up was Kelvingrove:
This is a beautiful, typically Victorian museum of just about everything; this is the main gallery at the entrance:
There you can see a Spitfire from WWII, a range of stuffed animals and insects, a horses skeleton, models of the solar system, and loads more. Every gallery was stuffed with different things from various times, and mainly the boys were in their element - they especially loved the display of swords and drawings of people getting bits chopped off!
They weren’t overly enamoured with the sculptures, but were amused to note that some statures were naked and ‘you can see their bum!’ Myself, I thought the building was one of the most interesting things there:
After this, we popped over the road to the Transport Museum, where they were really in their element with all of the cars, trains, bikes etc. For Steph and I it was quite distressing to see that cars from our childhoods are now in museums. We finished off with a walk through the park to try and tire the boys out-do you think it worked?
We spent the night in Stirling, in an ever lovely version of a motel called a Travelodge-I guess it beats sleeping in a skip, but not by much before winding our way home through Perth, via Huntingtower Castle:
Where we chased the boys around the battlements as they did their best to give us heart attacks, before spending their pocket money in the shop. We had a walk down by the River in Perth, which is very nice, before driving back the scenic route.
It’s always nice to get away and the boys had lots of fun, exploring and eating altogether too much junk food. It’s always good to get home again, and there’s no doubt that Aberdeen is best!
The museums were great, but Glasgow is a real dive - I can see now why they built a motorway right over the top of it ![]()

It’d have been a bit cramped in the Travelodge!
Where do you want to go? And are you ever going to write your website?

Ha! I am trying to figure out an exchange where you guys can come to WA state and stay at our house, and we go to Scotland to yours. LOL Just kidding. I know you would rather see California.

I don’t know, I like green and mountains, I don’t think that’s California? I think you’d find our houses over here a bit small, they’re probably more cramped than your refrigerators over there

One of the things I like the most about visiting England is seeing all the old buildings. They’re beautiful and fascinating.

Careful Rav’N this is Scotland and the difference would be pointed out to you. How is your part of New Zealand?
There you go Katherine, just goes to show how preconceptions can be wrong. I thought it was all desert, LA & SF.
Glad you like them Skittles & Erika!

Apologies. I should have said UK. and I’m not enough of an Aussie yet to get offended by a NZ quip. Now if you’d likened Singapore and Malaysia…
buildings aside, Scotlands got a prettier countryside anyway. The whole time I was there I just wanted to go off traipsing somewhere.

That’s OK Rav’N I’m English anyway….
You’re right though, Scotland is beautiful (apart from Galsgow….and Scumdee).
