I am enjoying the 2008 X-Factor more than last years, it is much more refreshing now Sharon is not in the mix, although Cheryl always seems to be crying.

Does anyone else think she looks like Little Britain's Matt Lucas and sounds like his character Vicky Pollard? Same hair colour, too! Perhaps Vicky's changed her fashion "sense" a bit...

No training whatsoever? Huh.

What can a parent do to gently crush dreams? Anything along the lines of "you'll embarrass yourself" or "please God, don't bring shame upon the family name" would only serve to piss the child off and make them that much more determined to prove the parent wrong. Thankfully, I have some time to dwell on this.

In the meantime, American Idol will be starting up soonish and I can laugh and laugh at the audition stage (I can't stay away).

I know what you mean Crystal, I'm sure some go through only to make it look like Cowell has a soul! Good luck with the blog.

I agree Pinksy, I wouldn't ordinarily watch something like this, but it was like watching a pile-up on the other side of the road....

You are right when you say that the audition stage is the best bit! There are definitely some mentally unstable people on there. But the best are the ones who genuinely think they are awesome, when really they are tone-deaf. But hold on, they just got on national TV for 2 minutes, so perhaps that's all they are after.

I've noticed that some people go through to boot camp, like the banjo-granny, never to be seen again. Is there another stage between audition and bootcamp that we don't get to see, where they kick out the obviously daft ones?

I've just started a blog about it myself. Can't wait til next week's show!

Sometimes you have to wonder whether some of these are staged. This one may not be, but some are, I'm sure.
