The Sides
If you’ve a spare five minutes and fancy listening to some new music, click on the audio player to hear my personal favourite song, pretty much ever.
As it says, it is ‘The Sides’ by Ataxia, and even thinking about the song raises goose bumps on my arms. I can’t put my finger on it completely, but just everything from the effects on the drum intro, to the bass line and especially the quite beautiful guitar just hits every spot for me.
It’s a song that deserves to be listened to over & over, as each time you can pick out a different layer to it. It’s a song that can be listened to quietly, or extremely loudly, and I’ve yet to tire of it. Even better, the second album is out at the end of the month

Certainly an education to me… Would you say it sounds like Prog-rock meets The Doors (without wishing to sound derogatory)? I keep meaning to try out Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who do the whole epic thing. Like the drum intro - very sampleable! Liking the audio plugin too - may have to get that one!

Actually clocks in at about 6:40, not 5:00 — certainly much better, Chris, than that last poor fellow’s caterwauling….

Not particularly derogatory Pinksy, Frusciante is heavily into older music, ans while he doesn’t cite those influences, I don’t think he’d be that upset.

Pinksy hit it with the comparison to the Doors ’sound’. In the late 1970’s I was addicted to the “School” song by Supertramp from their Crime of the Century album. (we had it on vinyl lol. The buildup to the scream is just something primal almost.

Never really got into the Doors. May have to revisit them…

A very interesting sound. I like it when the guitars enter. The voice sounds mixed a little to high to the track though. Just a personal preference.
