This is an interesting page: How Much Is A Million? A Billion?

For example:

A million seconds is 13 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.

Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000.
The country has not existed for a trillion seconds.
Western civilization has not been around a trillion seconds.
One trillion seconds ago – 31,688 years – Neanderthals stalked the plains of Europe.

If you can tell me how many zeroes there are in One Centillion, without googling it or following the link, award yourself the SAC prize.

    My guess would be 99.

That’s enough. I’m off to Google.

Fingers crossed that heretofore unknown mathematical genius takes this oppotunity to reveal itself …

  2. Melissa says:

    Bah!

    And jeez, oppotunity = opportunity.

Must practice typing as obviously math is not my strong suit.

  3. Guessing also 1 followed by 99 zeros. Strictly from the half-remembered Latin.

But I guess Melissa’s already found out differently, eh?

  4. OK, fine. I see that this was not a good guess — but, Chris, please explain the correct answer?

  5. Chris says:

Nope, I only link to these things ;-)

Maths was never my favourite subject.
