I Spoil You Lot

Really I do: Two new features for you to play with:

The Randomiser: Over on the top right of the page is the Randomiser in it’s new home - just click the question mark to be taken to a totally random post from the last 6 months. Keep on clicking, and you’ll keep getting more. It’s like Stumble Upon only you never leave my blog!

Unrelated Posts: If you click on an individual post you will notice at the bottom, a selection of other posts that are loosely related to the one you’re on. Click to view them, and you’ll also be served up another batch of unrelated posts at the bottom.

With nearly 1000 posts of random rubbish on this blog, these features are probably the best way to trawl my archives.

If you’d like them for your own blog, they are, as ever, limited to Wordpress users, and you can find out more about them along with installation instructions on my other blog, Blog-Op: Random Posts and Related Posts.

Lovin those plugins eh? I keep meaning to do a related posts plugin to go at the bottom of each of mine.

Hey, any idea why one of my posts could disappear off Digg? I posted my “James Bond’s Outbox” article to Reddit.com, and someone Dugg it (http://digg.com/movies/James_Bond_s_Outbox_PICTURES). It was happily getting more and more Diggs (and my traffic was going up), but then about midnight last night it disappeared from the News/Upcoming pages, the Entertainment/Upcoming pages, the Movies pages… The only way to find it now is by direct link or through someone’s Dugg list.

    Any ideas?

    You’ve been buried mate.

Digg is populated by 13 YO boys who have a hatred of anything blog related unless it has a pictures of scantily clad young ladies in repose (They have a point I guess).

From what I’ve read, there are actually groups of ‘Diggers’ going around burying anything blog related, and it only takes 4 or 5 to bury a story. Have a Stumble instead :-)

  3. Pinksy Says:

How do you tell it’s been buried? And can it be unburied or re-Dugg?

  4. Chris Says:

AFAIK the only clue is it’s rapid disappearance, and re-digging will get you banned as a spammer. This is why Digg sucks logs.

    Try Reddit?

  5. Pinksy Says:

I posted it to Reddit first, and waited to see if someone else would Digg it! Ah well, it pulled a few punters in.

What would you categorize it as on Stumble?

  6. Pinksy Says:

You Stumbled it - thanks! About 40 hits in the last 30 minutes!

In other words, a descent into Hell….

( ) I hope that’s the right little yellow dot to signify I’m not serious.

    Well, not entirely serious… ( )

Seemed another little yellow dot was called for there, too….

And I still have to figure out this Stumble business… I’ve Stumbled a bit at work (I capitalized it to make certain you didn’t get the wrong idea) and I’ve come across some of the very things you’ve linked to over time… but I haven’t self-Stumbled or figured out how to Stumble anyone else. Aside from sticking my leg out as they walk by, of course….

    Smiley-tastic

When you’re on a page you like just click ‘I like it’ on your stumble toolbar. If you’re the first to do it a little pop-up will appear asking you to choose a category.

    Simple, but effective :-)

Your comments on my blog are duly noted….

Stumbling your own site doesn’t work very well. It works well if you get a blogging friend to do it for you and then you follow up on it.

I don’t use the related posts plugin. I used the similar posts plugin. It does basically the same thing except that I can restrict it to using the same category for the related posts. The same author also has a sister plugin called Similar Posts for Feeds. I use that one now too and it shows up on every feed.
