While the name hybrid golf clubs brings up all manner of interesting images in your head, what they actually are, are clubs that have elements of both iron and wood design in them. Whilst I’ve never had any problem hitting 5 iron downwards, it was rare that I would take a 3 or 4 iron off anything other than a tee peg. Equally, I loved my fairway woods for those distance shots, but too often they would ‘bounce’ through wet rough sending my ball nowhere.

These hybrid clubs are shaped somewhat like a cross between an iron and a wood, which enables them to have the straighter, squarer face of an iron and sharp leading edge, but with a centre of gravity much farther back like a wood. This enables you to launch the ball easier, gaining more air and spin. Certain utility clubs also have rails underneath, which further aid cutting through rough and sand etc. More and more pros are starting to use these clubs, and when it comes time for me to upgrade my clubs, I ‘m definitely going to take a look.

This is a paid post, but the poor golfing ability is all my own ;-)
