High Hopes
At her request, I bought Steph a book on bear attacks by Stephen Herreo for Christmas - she had heard of it through the excellent Bill Bryson book ‘A walk in the woods’ and fancied a read.
It’s an informative, yet scary book all about bear attacks, how to survive them & what can go wrong; how you should play dead to a Grizzly, but not to a Black Bear, as it will probably eat you. We’d both love to visit the wilderness regions of the US & Canada, but as we’ve agreed that being eaten is not the way we want to shuffle off this mortal coil, we probably won’t. All of this made seeing the following story on the BBC, all the more amusing:
Tabby Cat Terror For Black Bear

Love the cat at the bottom, just sitting there waiting…

You actually don’t need to go far off the beaten track to get chomped lately.
People have been dragged away by Cougars while out walking their dogs or on camping trips on the island and in BC.
Bears are right in town now.
I love the wilderness here…but yeah. Being lower on the food chain is unnerving.

As part of Stephs recent Bear fixation, we’ve been watching the documentaries on poor deluded Timothy Treadwell, as well as the Discovery shows on getting people who’ve been attacked, to re-visit the site of their attacks & tell their story.
I’m not leaving the house.
Have you read the book CC? Sounds like you might need to
