Green Options [P]
The state of the environment and what we are doing to our planet is understandably one of the hottest topics around at the moment. Everyone has an opinion on the matter, and unfortunately quite often a hidden agenda too. It would be great to find a relatively unbiased source of information, which could assist you in making some informed choices about your own lifestyle, both environmentally and even financially too. That source of information could prove to be Green Options: Greening the Good Life. I really like the look of this site, it’s understandably green and laid out in a very clear, easy to read and navigate manner. The site is divided into four main sections: the blog, the forums, the Green Life Guide and the Green Report.
The Blog: Laid out in the usual manner, they have a team of seventeen writers, aiming to generate around 6-10 posts a day, and from what I can see, they’ve succeeded. The blog is nicely laid out, and makes use of the ‘read more’ feature on every post, which takes you to a new page to read the whole article. I’m not a huge fan of the ‘read more’ tool, but given the amount of text in each post, it’s understandable, and it does make commenting easier. One thing that does not make commenting easier is the dreaded ‘word verification/captcha’ that needs to be completed for each comment. Anti-spam measures are understandable, but this may cost them a lot of comments - from what I can see they are not using WordPress (I think it’s Drupal?) so I don’t know anti-spam options they have, but a less intrusive one would be my preferred option. The blog posts make good use of relevant images which helps to lift the post, and they are very interesting - I love this hybrid car.
The Forums: Understandably not thrumming with life yet, given their newness, there are however a couple of dozen topics up, and a good few posts on them. With 19 categories to choose from, I’m sure this will soon become extremely busy.
Green Life Guide: This section is Wiki-styled and as such can be updated by registered users. It contains tons of information how to live a greener life, including things like setting up a home recycling system, installing solar panels or just eating more local food. This last one is something we as a family have really embraced over the last year, and it has been fantastic, not only knowing our food comes from less than 10 miles away, it’s also tastier, chemical free and cheaper!
Green Report: Another large resource linking to relevant articles across the web. An excerpt is available on Green Options, along with the chance to comment, or you can follow the link to read it in full on the original site.
This is really skimming the surface of what is an excellent website. This may be a sponsored post, but I have found it genuinely interesting, have bookmarked it for future reading and written a lot more than I need to. I’m very impressed, and can strongly recommend it - great work!![]()
