Everyone wants to get their site indexed by Google (and rated as high as possible!), and although there are no guarantees, their are ways you cam improve your chances. As some of you will know, sitemaps are one of these ways.

Fortunately (and unsurprisingly), the now standard format for these maps has been set by Google. These sitemaps are an XML file that list the URL of every page on your site, and sit at the root directory of your website, and effectively act as a ‘guidebook’ to any search engine robots crawling your site. This enables the search engine to search your site more effectively, and help to ensure they don’t miss anything.

But how do you create these files? Step right this way to the free XML Sitemap Generator. This simple to use site, will read the URL of the site you enter into it, generate a sitemap & allow you to download it for free. You then upload the new XML file to your site, and then let Google know about it here: Google Webmaster Tools Sign up for a free account, and then tell Google where your sitemap is-once confirmed you will be able to access useful Google stats regarding your site.

Those of you using Wordpress can download the sitemap generator plugin here, which makes the whole process even easier. More info on sitemaps can be found at Wikipedia.
