Given the fun and games over the last 24 hours, where my webhost’s server fell to bits & had to be replaced by a new machine, it got me thinking about this subject. Fortunately their backups were up to date, and nothing was lost and I had taken my own back ups last night.

I used to backup ‘occasionally’, but now I think it’s going to be every night, when I’ve posted. Do you back up your blog? If you don’t know how, I’ve written a small post about it on my other blog: Back Up Your Blog.

Hope it’s of use, drop me a comment/email if you want more info & I’ll try to help…

  1. No I don’t. By the way.. I’m glad you finally got it up (Giggle.)

  2. Thanks! Great info that I will pass along.
    Thanks,
    Frances
    Happy 2007!

  3. Skittles, you are a disgrace woman! ;-)

    Cheers Frances, and to you!

  4. I probably should do that. I’ve also thought about printing pages out (but not sure if i want to use all the ink). I was thinking of binging the pages together in some creative way to have a “hard copy” of my blog… for when I’m old and gon and it soesnt exist anymore. Do you think one day instead of passing down physical items down the family tree it will be blogs? haha

  5. Pardon my CRAPPY typing skills.

  6. You may joke, but some blogs have archives going back 5 years already…. That’s quite a journal.

Obviously you need a new keyboard, as your ‘e’ has stopped working ;-) but if you were using Firefox, it’s spell checker would have picked them up….

  7. Occasionally I export the database (like once every 3 or 4 months), but my site’s hosted by WebFusion who have their own backups. If they lost all my stuff I’ll want my money back!

  8. Brave man Pinksy… Trust no-one ;-)

  9. Uh, oh, now I’m worried - my heart is pounding in fear - what if I wake up tomorrow and my whole blog is gone….. aaackkkk…. I just assumed it would be here forever - for my grandchildren and their grandchildren, but I guess there are no guarantees….

I like the idea of printing it to have a hard copy, but I think I’m just too lazy… I mean busy… darn, I wish you hadn’t brought this up :(

  10. Sorry Heather! There are ways to backup your Blogger blog as I described in my Blog-Op post. Thankfully, WordPress is single click to save posts, comments the lot. :-)
