War is always a spectacular waste, and the first world war was perhaps the biggest of all. However, the ancient, black and white footage usually seen can really disconnect you from the reality of it. It doesn’t look real.

This set of photos changes that, and suddenly make things all too real. These were taken in colour originally, they have not been digitally coloured since, and they are quietly amazing in their own way: The Photos.
