Buying domain names is always a tricky business - you want something that’s snappy & relevant to your site, but if you choose one consisting of multiple words, you need to be careful that they don’t spell something else when they’re typed together. Witness:

  • You have a website called Therapist Finder. What could be wrong with that?
  • If you’re company is called Powergen, and the Italy division needs their own site, what’s wrong with Powergen Italia?
  • Want people to go to Tahoe? Just tell them to ‘Go Tahoe’.

I’d seen a few of these before, but Grupthink has a list of 42 now, and you can vote for the best or add more. And find out what the 3 above are, if you haven’t realised already….

  2. That was hilarious!!!! i didnt get it at first! so i have to do the read out loud thing!

  3. They’re good aren’t they? You look at some and think ‘What’s wrong with that?’ Then you say it out loud…

BTW Claire, go to bed!!! 2:52am….. :-O

  4. I’ve written up a bit about coding your own “Most Commented” widget, over at my site. I thought I’d do that first, as the SQL is easier to follow than it is for the “Top commentors” widget. If it makes vague sense, I’ll do the other one. I don’t mind rewriting them for Blog-Op too. Have a butchers anyway…

  5. Funny you mention domain names. I was just asking a few friends about .st domains. Do you know much about them?

There are some pretty valuable ones up for grabs but I don’t know whether they’ll catch on or not. wall.st is registered for instance but there’s no site - hasn’t been for a while.

  6. It’s for São Tomé and Príncipe…

  7. Ah ok, it was that bla.st site that got me thinking. There are a lot of famous streets around so made me curious.

  8. Pinksy, I’m impressed and in awe: No wonder people write plugins. I’d be glad to have anything you want to contribute for Blog-Op :-)

Hi David, it’s another one of those domains like .us that hasn’t got that popular yet, bu creative users could make a fortune…
