Cafe.com has just launched and looks to be an interesting new slant on free multi player gaming. There's a variety of games available for free once you've signed up, and chosen your virtual avatar. Cafe.com operates a Gold Coin system which enables you to upgrade your gaming experience. For example, in the game Ironsides, which is an online Warship game played against other people, you start with the default ship, which is obviously not hugely powerful. By spending some gold coins, you can upgrade to a more powerful craft such as the Obstructor, and therefore do more damage to your opponent! Gold coins are Cafe.com's way of monitizing the site, as you can only obtain them by purchasing them with real cash. They can be used to buy such things as avatars, accessories, gameplay items and as yet undisclosed future items. Games are typical arcade puzzlers and includes Space Dhoom, Ironsides, Egypt Quest, Music Connect and Swordfish which is vaguely reminiscent of Tetris. You can practice in the solo area, to avoid embarrassing your self straight away, and begin all games for free at the base level. As you improve, the option is always there to get even more powerful by purchasing some gold coins. Looks interesting!
