Akismet is a very useful anti-spam plugin, which has kept literally tens of thousands of spam comments off my blogs, but sometimes you have to wonder….

In the last 24 hours both Claire & Melissa, who have been visiting this place longer than is good for them, have been sent to the sin bin, whilst some vacuous moron called ‘World of Warcraft’ posted a ‘nice site’ comment which was let through. Bah.

Apologies ladies……

Phew! You let me through this time, I thought you had actually discovered I was a large tin of processed meat. I guess I have fooled you once again…………

  2. Pinksy says:

Disqus might be worth a try – it’s been pretty cool for me so far…

  3. It’s crazy what those spam filters do sometimes. Maybe you’ll see this one. :)

  4. nice site

    j/k
Seriously, I don’t think anyone posting on do-follow blogs is going to rank #1 for World of Warcraft, lol. I bet I just got sent to the sin bin, didn’t I?

  5. Melissa says:

Is THAT where I was? Sounds intriguing …

  6. Chris says:

Might have to look into that, it is rather flash.

  7. Chris says:

Amazingly Akismet seems to be having a bit of lie-down at the moment. I really don’t know why these comment spammers bother, it’s just a waste of everyone’s time.

    The secret’s out!

  9. I was trying to think of a comment that would certainly get me exiled to ‘sin bin.’ I could use the diversion….

Actually, I’ve noticed that — in this latest incarnation of your blog — comments seem to take longer to post than I generally find to be the case elsewhere. Perhaps it is your spam filter weighing me in the balance?

  10. Roger says:

As good as Akismet is, as with all technology it’s not perfect and I guess it never will be… But like you say it’s kept out many spam posts for you, so at least it’s kinda doing it’s job

Last week I was inundated with stupid spam from all corners of the planet and beyond. I have no idea why they take the time either. Creeps!

  12. discount medical equipment says:

    thanks for the post

i have question, does do follow blog improving ranking ?

    • Chris says:

      Dear discount medical equipment,

To answer your question, no it doesn’t. Furthermore leaving it on a ‘nofollow’ blog such as this one, that also has a published policy of marking people with keyworded names as spammers is also counter productive as you’ll find out when other people do the same and your site gets blacklisted in Google.

I’ve just de-linked your name and left your comment for comedy value. You spamming tool.
