No, don’t say ‘bless you’. It’s the name of a local mountain & is pronounced ‘Ben-a-hee’ (roughly). We decided to walk off the Christmas food by going for a little 10 mile stroll up it.

We started off at 8 this morning:

Bennachie dawn

Sunrise

It was quite cold, around freezing, but with no wind once you got walking & warmed up, it was fine.

Bennachie

That’s as high as the sun gets this time of year.

The countryside below was rimed in frost, and fog hung in the hollows. It was absolutely beautiful. We had a picnic at the top, and walked down the otherside. The sun was already on the way down.

Bennachie sunset

My legs are aching a bit now, but it was a fantastic day out. The boys had a great time scrambling up and down the rocks, and I feel like I’ve made room for some more Christmas pudding!

Aberdeenshire is the most beautiful place, in any season. If you’re wondering where to go on holiday next year, you could do a lot worse….

Thanks. I can’t tell you how beautiful it was to the naked eye: the photos can only tell half the story.
