These creatures absolutely fascinate me: Cicada Invasion Begins.

Do any of you live in an areas where these guys show up once every 17 or 13 years? What a strange life cycle, to spend so long underground, pop up, mate & die. I would imagine a lot of their colonies have been built on in the past, as people forgot or didn’t care where they were.
Nature is cool.

We get them ever 17 years. We just had them in 2004. I had a shirt that had a Cicada on it wearing a party animal shirt… and my shirt said “cicada tour ’04″
We get a ton of them. I was working as a naturalist at the park the year we got them, we did a few programs and freaked out (well i did anyway) when someone came in the building with one or two stuck to them. (I’m not a fan or bugs)
They are loud suckers too.
Really, that is so cool. I think I’d run a mile if they tried to land on me, but I do find them to be amazing creatures.
2021 ’til the next time then. Will you be there?
